Sun After Rain

February 10, 2010

Did some guy one time write those words in a poem? I don’t know. I didn’t even go to Jr. High or school or anything.
But if I did, I bet they would make me memorize a poem by some guy, the title would be “Sun after Rain” and I would have to stand up in front of the  class and recite it.

I would have been meaning to memorize it for a whole two weeks, before the due date of the day we have to stand in front of the class and recite. But I probably wouldn’t really even read it til the night before, and then I would just be cramming it, line by line, into my brain, saying the words over and over, so I could say them in a long string, out loud, in front of the other monkeys who would be lauging at me if I looked right at them.

But I thought of those words today, because it is so very sunny and beautiful, and it did rain yesterday. And so I investigated to see if there really is such a poem. If there wasn’t, I was going to write it myself.
It would go  like this:
Sun after Rain
by Earl
After it rains
The sun comes out
When it rains you are sad
But when the sun comes out
You are glad.
The End
It turns out there really is such a poem, by a guy I think I heard of, and it seems like it must be pretty famous, because it is so beautiful.

Here it is:
When the Sun Come After Rain
Robert Louis Stevenson

When the sun comes after rain
And the bird is in the blue,
The girls go down the lane
Two by two.

When the sun comes after shadow
And the singing of the showers,
The girls go up the meadow,
Fair as flowers.

When the eve comes dusky red
And the moon succeeds the sun,
The girls go home to bed
One by one.

And when life draws to its even
And the day of man is past,
They shall all go home to heaven,
Home at last.
