All the monkeys are making more noise now and jumping all about again.

We had been quiet on purpose like we were one day last May.

This is all because now the man’s mother died on January 26.

She was 75 years old. Her name is Dorothy Ann.

She had a famous disease which no one knows hardly anything about.

It was named after the  famous baseball player Lou Gehrig.

The doctor called it Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Dorothy was so talented.

She made things with wood and reupholstered furniture. She made amazing quilts.

She painted and read literature. She studied the Bible and prayed every day.

She taught her 6 kids to cook and sew and climb trees safely and eat lots of bananas.

She had a cactus garden. Cactus! I have only one word to say about that: Ouch!

Wow! Those scary cactus can be quite beautiful.

Her husband Donald loved his family. He worked hard and was a very good provider. He was a university scholar and composed a lot of choral music for their church.

Don enjoyed being with others

Don died suddenly and unexpectedly 3 years ago.

After that, Dorothy started to get mysteriously weaker. She tried so hard to stay healthy and well. She always ate right and exercised. She didn’t even drink a beer!

Finally, Dorothy got so tired and worn out from that horrible disease that she was going to starve herself to end it.  But she didn’t have to, because the Lord was gracious to her all the way to the end.  Her brother and sisters had come to visit her and one day while they were all with her talking, Dorothy quietly slipped off ahead of them.

And when life draws to its even
And the day of man is past,
They shall all go home to heaven,
Home at last.
